tom1.jpgDr. Buckley graduated from Kansas State University in 1987. While in college he was a member of Phi Zeta Veterinary Medicine Honorary Fraternity and he took several advanced courses in canine and equine surgery. After graduation Dr. Buckley worked at a mixed animal practice for 2 years, and then worked as a relief veterinarian for 4 years. He opened Oakbrook Animal Hospital in 1993.

Tom and his wife Cyndi share their home with 5 dogs, 3 cats, 9 horses and 2 sons. Braden is a sophomore in college and Kyon is a senior in high school. Cyndi does bookkeeping for the hospital and owns her own business making custom riding chaps.

Most of Dr. Buckley’s free time is spent traveling to rodeos with his family. His favorite events to compete in are team roping and calf roping. He also enjoys any outdoor sports, including scuba diving and flying airplanes.

Continuing Education is very important to Dr. Buckley and he takes a special interest in all types of surgeries. Some of his most interesting cases have been foreign body removals, including hair barrettes, towels and a Pokemon pencil topper. One time he performed surgery on an ostrich that had an obstruction.  In the bird's stomach he found nuts, bolts, screws and bottle caps.  Another time he  removed over 400 porcupine quills from a wolfhound’s mouth, a procedure which took over 2 hours.

Dr. Buckley is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Veterinarian Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners, and he became a member of the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association in 2006. He is also the Vice President of the Kansas High School Rodeo Association.

larry1.jpgDr. Larry Garten graduated from Kansas State University with a Masters in 1981 and spent nine years in Nebraska managing a cattle feeding operation.  After a move for his wife's career, he graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1997 with his DVM degree.  He also was a member of Phi Zeta, graduating in the top 10 percentile of his class.  His Clinical Competency Exam score was the highest in his class and the highest recorded at OSU for several years.  He has been at Oakbrook since 2001.

Dr. Garten enjoys the challenges of diagnosing and treating our four-legged friends while involving their owners/care-givers in these important decisions.  The treat of the day is working with a puppy or kitten and their new family.

Dr. Garten and his wife Jean, a hospital administrator, live between Gardner and Desoto.  They have two daughters, Lauren and Julia, and two miniature pinchers, Mikki and Kappa.  His passions include landscaping and cattle breeding, but also enjoys outdoor waters ports including fishing, skiing and boating and watching Big 12 sports.
